🚢 TwinShip Innovation Spotlight: Integrated Green Digital Twin (DT) Model.
We’re excited to share Innovation 3 of the TwinShip project – an Integrated Green DT Model that combines first principles with advanced data science and AI methods to support system-wide ship performance modeling.
🔍 Current Challenge: Traditional Digital Twin approaches in maritime often rely on first-principles models, which struggle with the complexity of vessel System-of-Systems (SoS) and high-dimensional data. While AI/ML offer powerful alternatives, challenges remain around interpretability and industry trust.
🚀 TwinShip’s Breakthrough: TwinShip introduces a hybrid DT model development cycle spanning the entire ship lifecycle. It begins with the creation of an Engine Propeller Combinator Diagram (EPCD) using detailed design, hydrodynamic, propulsion, and power system data. This is then enriched with operational, maintenance, and green fuel technology data via the Vessel Data Cloud Space (VDCS) to form a robust, interpretable, and sustainable DT model.
Rooted in experience from VesselAI and SeaTech H2020 projects, this innovation sets a new standard for dynamic, explainable, and green-ready Digital Twins in maritime.
